OUTREACH
In 2015, we founded one FIRST LEGO League team, and mentored two others. We founded the team Oranges Extended, pictured left, who were based at Sunnyside Environmental School, and scored and placed 8th at the 2015 Trash Trek competition with a high score of 317 points. Additionally, we mentored two teams based out of Winterhaven School.
In 2016, we started teaching a girl's group called the Explorers about robotics with monthly sessions.
In 2017, we started mentoring another FLL team at Tucker Maxon called The Super Awesomes (TSA).
In 2018, we continued with Tucker Maxon to founde two new teams at Winterhaven and mentor two teams at Hosford Middle School. To help our mentored teams, we hosted a practice tournament. Two of these mentored teams went to State. We also sent volunteers to local FLL tournaments and State.
In 2019, we mentored a team of 8th graders from Winterhaven, The Amazing Walri, and two elementary school teams from Arleta and Grout, the Robotic Penguins and Dolphin Droids. We once again hosted a practice tournament for the teams and the Walri and Dophins qualified for the 2020 City Shaper Intel Oregon FIRST LEGO League State Championships. The Amazing Walri won the Innovation Project Award for Research for their project, titled "the Crossing Conundrum."
We also do outreach with local companies, community events such as OMSI's Mini Maker Faire, the Hillsboro Airshow, and within our school.
