Installing/Upgrading Solidworks

Installing SOLIDWORKS:

2. Select Yes on the first question (You already have a serial number)

3. Choose 2019-2020 version

4. Enter your email address

5. Select Student Team on the drop-down and Request Download

6. Accept T&C and continue

Download and run the installer, it will be a self-extracting WinZip file, click unzip leaving the rest default

8. Enter the solidworks serial number in the SOLIDWORKS section. The current serial number will be pinned on #cad_and_design on slack

9. Select the products you want to install, most likely that will just be SOLIDWORKS, however you can install other products later by re-running the installer

10. Now click download and install and solidworks will install the update. SOLIDWORKS will prompt you to reboot at the end. Once you have re-booted open up the new version of SOLIDWORKS

11. Once you reopen SOLIDWORKS it will ask you if you want to keep your configurations, it is recommended you do. It will then prompt for product activation, select over internet and then Next>

12. Once SOLIDWORKS has updated over the internet it will prompt you again if you want to keep your config. It is recommended you keep the existing config. After that screen solidworks should be ready to use

Please remember to deactivate your license when you are done with Solidworks, we have a limited number of licenses and do not get them back when you uninstall without deactivating.

 

UPGRADING SOLIDWORKS

8. Replace the solidworks serial number in the SOLIDWORKS section. The current serial number will be pinned on #cad_and_design on slack. If other products have a serial number, uncheck those boxes.

9. For installation options select upgrade SOLIDWORKS

10. Select the products you want to update most likely that will just be SOLIDWORKS

12. In the Summary page SOLIDWORKS will list what changes are going to happen, the default options should be fine for all but toolbox/hole wizard. For this option select change, then use and existing SOLIDWORKS toolbox, the select upgrade. If there is a warning about the folder existing just continue, if that continues to fail, just create a new toolbox.

13. SOLIDWORKS will now inform you that you have another SOLIDWORKS license on your computer, chose to deactivate that license. You will get a popup similar to this:

Just deactivate the single SOLIDWORKS product. It might fail, if this happens try again, if it says no product found its done.

14. Now click download and install and solidworks will install the update. SOLIDWORKS will prompt you to reboot at the end. Once you have re-booted open up the new version of SOLIDWORKS
